Celebrating the Heart of Our Community: Volunteers’ Week at Silverleigh

Every year in early June, communities across the UK come together to honour a group of people who too often work quietly in the background, our volunteers. At Silverleigh, we believe in shining a bright spotlight on the kindness and dedication of these extraordinary individuals, which is why we were proud to celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2025 with a heartfelt event that brought joy to everyone involved.
To mark the occasion, we hosted a special coffee morning during the week commencing 2nd June. The aroma of fresh coffee and homemade cakes filled the air as our staff and residents welcomed some of the wonderful volunteers who regularly give their time and energy to both our care home and the wider community.
Our lounge was beautifully decorated and a lovely handmade poster, crafted with help from some of our residents, took pride of place. It featured colourful messages of gratitude and appreciation, a small but heartfelt gesture to say “thank you” to the volunteers who make such a big difference in the lives of others.

More than just visitors
What made this event so special wasn’t just the cakes or coffee (though they were certainly enjoyed by all!), it was the genuine connections shared across the table. Our residents lit up as they chatted with familiar faces, people who regularly pop in for a friendly conversation, help with activities or simply offer a listening ear. These volunteers are not just visitors, they’ve become part of our Silverleigh family.
For our residents, many of whom have lived rich and varied lives contributing to society in their own ways, it’s a joy to now feel so connected to their community in return. Being surrounded by such kindness and generosity reminds them that they are still very much a valued part of the world beyond our walls.
Why we celebrate
Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the power of giving, not just in terms of time, but in terms of presence, compassion and care. At Silverleigh, we see every day how these small acts of kindness ripple outward, making our home a warmer, more vibrant place.
This celebration wasn’t just about the volunteers, though they are undoubtedly the stars of the show, it was also about celebrating community spirit and the beautiful bonds that form when people come together with empathy and purpose.
To all our volunteers: Thank you. Your time, your compassion and your commitment mean the world to us. You bring smiles, comfort and connection and for that, we are endlessly grateful.
Here’s to you and here’s to many more cups of coffee shared together in the months and years to come.
